Doc is quite the character who has come from a not so great background.  For whatever reason, he was dropped off into the middle of nowhere in Lewisburg, TN.  He wandered around in the cold December weather until the Lewisburg Animal Shelter picked him up.  All American Dachshund Rescue soon swooped in to take Doc in.

He is a really funny dog.  He chews his toenails (you'll never have to clip them!), and he will speak to you when he wants some of your human food!  He loves, loves, LOVES to ride in the car and is a perfect car partner.  Another of his all time favorites - sleeping and lounging around.  He loves to nap next to you on the couch and adores sleeping with you in the bed.  When bedtime comes, he'll beat you to the bed.  He is fine with cats and is okay with other dogs, but he doesn't tolerate them very well.  Doc needs a patient person - it takes him a couple of weeks to adjust.  But when he does, he is ALL your's and wants nothing more than your attention and love.  He needs someone who is settled and will let him finally rest - something I think he has been missing his whole life in his past seemingly stressful home.  Will you give this silly boy his finally home to rest in?  You won't regret it. Make sure to check out all of his pictures and his video - an example of how silly he is!

Is Not Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
