Millie and Carlos are a closely bonded sister and brother pair who are absolutely adorable. Millie is the responsible one always looking out for and protecting her brother. Carlos adores Millie and she’s never out of his sight. They always (emphasize always) sleep together, prefer to play with each other instead of the other dogs and rarely get on each other’s nerves (can I just add here that being the mother of two rather young kids; this behavior says A LOT and is rare among most siblings). Things to note:
Millie and Carlos are not barkers. Barking is saved for when they’re playing (Carlos sometimes takes things too far for Millie) and when something they want is out of their reach (like food).
They love to play with toys, love Kongs and love to play tug with a rope. They tire more easily than the bigger pups.
These two love to be carried ‘papoose’ style. Put on a robe and tie the belt tight around your waist. Tuck one pup on each side of the chest area of the robe (above the belt) and go on with your daily routine. They settle right in and love to see what you do all day.
These two are highly motivated by food. Training is a breeze when food is the reward. You’ll need to watch the amount they are fed at meal times though so they don’t get overfed (a common problem for many Dachshund owners). Both are very fast in response to any food dropped on the floor so if you need a clean up crew, these are your pups.
Both of these pups are huge snugglers and they are also soft as silk. They love to give kisses (Millie more than Carlos) and don’t fidget a lot (unless they see food that is open for the taking, then they will do anything to get out of your arms and to the object of their desire/pallet).

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
