BIO: Bentley was surrendered to us from a couple that needed to move into a retirement facility due to stroke and illness. This couple was unable to afford the proper vetting care required and Bentley was left to suffer with mass amounts of infections. When he came to me he was lethargic at best. He has been on antibiotics for 3 months to cure his infections. He had these infections for so long that his anal glands turned into scar tissue and his ear drums were on the verge of bursting. He bacterial ear infections, Staph infections of the skin, flea allergies, and swollen, hardened anal glands that prevented him from going to the bathroom properly. He has since had surgery to remove the anal glands and is currently recovering. He is struggling with slight incontinence due to the surgery. That may get better over time.

Bentley is a wonderful dog that was originally a show dog in RI. He has an air about him and holds his head high when he walks. He is very regal. He does tend to bark on occasion but only when he wants attention or if someone comes to the door. He loves to go for rides in the car and would do well with a constant human companion. Bentley would be great company for a retired person. He does not like cats and has show food aggression issues so he needs to be fed seperatley from other dogs. Bentley is a wonderful companion but he can not be expected to walk up and down stairs. He is a heavy boy but his back will not allow that. Please do not consider adopting Bentley if you have stairs because he is very heavy to carry up and down. Bentley enjoys walks and he loves to go to the dog park and socialize. Please consider giving Bentley his well deserved forever home.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
