BIO: Bailey and Kameron have been together since the beginning. They are definitely a bonded pair and do just about everything together. They were originally owned by a military family that took excellent care of them, but received news that they were being sent overseas. The military does not pay for the shipment and quarantine of family pets to overseas locations any longer and this family had to give their beloved dachshunds up. Bailey and Kameron were dropped off at a local shelter in North Caroline where a concerned dog lover was alerted and quickly took them in to be transported to our rescue. They have traveled a long way to find their forever home.

Bailey and Kameron have settled into my foster home overnight and have quickly taken over my daughter’s bedroom. They snuggle in for a long nights sleep and don’t budge. They are both huge snuggle bugs. They are also very playful and energetic! I am unsure of how they would do with other dogs; they have always been an only pair. Bailey has the more dominant personality while Kameron is more timid and follows Bailey’s lead. Bailey is very curios and inquisitive and if allowed in a fenced yard will look for any gaps to fit through. She must be carefully watched and the yard must be completely secure. Bailey and Kameron are crate trained and will sleep in their crate at night but would prefer a soft bed with a warm human; hands down. They have very limited cat experience; they enjoy chasing them and cornering them like a game. They are a wonderful pair that would liven up any home. Please consider opening your heart and home to a pair of beautiful and well behaved dachshunds. If you aren’t looking for a pair or even if you are, please put these two on your list, they are incredible dogs.

Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
