Missy was rescued from a hoarder in SC who had way too many dogs and then spent 4 months in an animal shelter.   Although her early years were not particularly pleasant, Missy is a sweet and loving little lady.  She is a long girl with a sleek light brown coat.  She is a a bit shy at first, but will be snuggled up beside you in no time.  Missy likes to go for walks around the neighborhood and enjoys watching the squirrels.  She likes to spend time out in the yard, so a fenced yard or frequent trips to a dog park would be right up her alley.  In the house she is very calm and well mannered.  She is housebroken.  Missy gets along well with other dogs.  She hasn't been around cats much, but since she is very interested in them when we are outside would probably be best in a home without feline friends.  Because she is a little shy she would be happiest in a home without young children.  She would be fine with older children.
If you are looking for a quiet and gentle new friend Missy is your girl.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
