This sweet little dachshund mix was dumped in a rural community in TN to fend for herself. A kind lady fed her to keep her from starving but then she noticed she was pregnant and had 7 little babies. She said there was also a stray beagle running around and it was felt that he was the daddy. The lady felt sorry for little no-name and contracted the Humane Society. They started looking for dachshund rescues. That's where AADR came in, we met the ladies on Oct 3rd to check out mom and babies. We told her we were jammed and could not take a mix in but when WE saw how sweet and beautiful little no-name was we could not say "NO". Mom and pups were taken in beneath AADR's wings.
Little no name was called Selena in honor of an AADR member's co-worker's retirement. She was the first "Name a doxie" winner. She is a winner! When you look at Selena you see a kind and gentle soul that doesn't understand why no one would want her. She is easy to love. Selena is shy, but not nervous. She is the perfect example of Cesar's "calm, submissive" dog. She has beautiful, expressive eyes and is content just to lie close. She displays very good manners at meal time and respects the other dogs' space while they eat. She shares toys and treats without grumbling. She has longer legs than a doxie and her ears can't decide whether they should lie flat against her head or stand up, so they just sort of flop out horizontally. We don't mind that she's not all doxie.. she got all the good parts. This is a great little dog and will be a loving addition to most any home. Her energy level is very calm. I think now that she has one to lie on.... she's a couch potato in the making!
More about Selena...NC
Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
