BIO:

FrankO came from a high kill shelter in Princeton, KY where he was dropped at the shelter, nothing known about him. He was scared out of his mind and there for felt he had to snap at everyone to protect himself. We were called to take him and picked him up in Hopkinsville, KY. It took me a while to pick him up but once I picked him up and put him in my car he settled down. When we got home he allowed me to carry him in the house but then after I let him down he would not let me touch him, he was still so scared. On the second day and after sleeping with him foster mom he is not the happiest little guy and let his foster mom pick him up and love on him. It’s hard to say what all happened to him in his short life of 5-8 mos. His Canine’s are not all the way thru so we are guessing him to be about 5-6 mos old. He is very sweet and stays by your side all night long in the big bed and goes out in the morning to potty. He will just need a routine to become completely housebroken and is doing very well with the dog door. He is still learning to play with the other dachshunds here but gets along with both male and female. FrankO just needs to know that he is safe then he’s your buddy. If you are looking for a young dachshund with no issues other than being shy then FrankO is the one for you. We think he’d be fine with older children as long as not one pushes themselves on him just allow him time to come to you and see that you can be trusted.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
