Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

BIO: Illeana is a sweet little girl that was turned into the Roanoke shelter as a stray, but is obviously no stray. Being lost and in a shelter has made her a timid little girl. She is very sweet, but takes some time and patience to warm up to people. She likes to run and hide under the dining room table, but with some patience she makes her way out and explores. She does best in a home with other dogs, I think my 2 pups have helped her feel comfortable and confident. After just 4 days in my home she has come into her own and is very playful with the other pups and will sometimes come to me when I call her, she will sleep in the bed with me and the pups and wake me up with kisses on the face. Illeana is a sweet little girl and will be a very loving pet with attention and patience. She does great with other dogs, she is quiet ( I have not heard one bark or whine from her), she does fine on a leash, I am not sure if she is housebroken or not, she has been very timid outside and hasnt been comfortable enough to go outside and use the bathroom.

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
