BIO:
MEET PEGGY

Peggy came to AADR in July 2010.  A lady named Peggy was driving down the road in Lauderdale County, AL and Peggy (the dog) was in the road.  Peggy (the dog) wouldn't get out of the road.  Peggy stopped her car and picked her up.  She called our local all breed rescue group, PAWS, and they contacted AADR.  We checked local papers to see if anyone had reported her missing, but sadly, they had not. We immediately took her in to find a foster home for her to give birth to and nurture her babies.  Then we took her to the vet to check her health and determine how many puppies she was having.  Initially, the vet saw six puppies, however on Friday, July 16, 2010, Peggy gave birth to seven puppies.

Now that Peggy has weaned her pups & is a free woman she is running around boundlessly with her new foster brothers & sister. Peggy’s motherly instincts are still kicked into high gear though. She loves to lead her blind foster brother around, snuggle with him, keep him out of trouble, and even clean him when he needs it. Peggy is the smartest & funniest dachshund I have had the privilege to foster in a long time. She loves to “steal” items & hide them in the back yard. If her foster sister prefers one toy over another & she drops it for a second Peggy will grab it, take it outside, and put it in her special hiding place….it is so funny (I spoke with her previous foster home & it seems she did this while she was at her home as well). She is such a little clown. She is perfectly housetrained to a doggie door and one ever had one accident in the house (the first day she came to her new foster home). Her favorite place to sleep at night is with her foster mom’s 9 yr old son. One of her favorite things to do is sit on the back porch & peer at her foster rabbit sister while oh so lovingly licking her chops. She patiently waits at the back door everyday for her rabbit sister to be fed so that she may get a glimpse. For this reason Peggy would do best in a home with no cats or other small animals. She has a very high prey drive as most dachshunds do.

Peggy will be going on 09/23/10 to get all her vetting up to date & spayed. After that she will be ready to find her forever home.

If you feel you can give Peggy the home she so deserves please fill out an adoption application.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application.

More about Peggy...TN

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
