Zena was surrendered along with Gretta after her owner's husband died and she was left with financial responsibilites that made it impossible to care for them as she felt they deserved. Zena and Gretta are not litter mates but their mothers were sisters--so they're first cousins and beauty certainly runs in the family! They enjoy each other's company, but they are not bonded and can be adopted separately.

Zena is a typical fun-loving, young dachsund and has discovered her own personal race track in her new foster home. She is still very much a puppy with loads energy and loves to run and wrestle with Gretta. She is very loving and loves to cuddle after she's all worn out. She is a little timid until she is sure she is safe but she does warm up quickly. Zena would do best in a home with another young laid back dog to play with since she has never been an only dog.

Housetraining is a new concept to Zena and she'll need a family willing to be patient and consistent with housetraining skills to ensure proper indoor manners. Zena was recently spayed and is up-to-date on all shots and will be ready for a forever home near the end of August. BUT, get your applications for adoption in NOW!!! She is a very special little princess and the family that adopts her will be very luck to have her. Her foster mom thinks there's just something "special" about Zena!

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about ZENA...NY

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
