BIO:  Beau was dumped at a shelter heartworm positive by his second family after the first family refused to take him back.  He had little cuts all over him as if bigger dogs had picked on him, and he was afraid to go outside at night.  His poor tail appears to have been broken near the base and never treated, so it veers to his left.

He’s had his heartworm treatment, and the vet has given him an excellent prognosis.  He had the treatment on June 30th, and after just three weeks he’s like a totally different dog.  With those nasty heartworms gone and a little love and cuddles, he does nothing but smile all the time.  His little crooked tail wags constantly, and I think he would hug us if he could.

Beau has just blossomed in our house in under a month, and whoever chooses him for a forever home could not get a more loyal, loving, cuddly dachshund.  He adores belly scratches, snuggles, and walks.  He’s learning how to play with his foster brothers and sisters (we don’t think he ever had the chance to play before), and loves to chase balls.  We’re working on him giving them back.  He does want to mark, but that’s probably because he’s not fixed, and our vet says he’ll most likely stop after neutering.  For now he wears a stylish belly band to help him remember he’s not supposed to do that in the house.

Even though he might have been bullied by big dogs, his larger foster sisters (pit mix and German shep mix) don’t bother him at all, but he’d probably be happiest with dogs his size.  He snuggles with my husband and my son just as happily as he does with me, and ignores the cats.

Beau would be a loving and loyal friend to the person that could give love and loyalty in return.  If you want a smiling dachshund, Beau would love to go home with you.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

More about Beau...GA

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
