SAM1 came from a family in Huntsville, AL that had to give him up due to his separation anxiety. He is fine here with his other fosters but they said if left alone by himself he either gets mad because you left him or he doesn't like to be left alone. We think crating him will help this situation and he seems fine in a crate when we go away. We do not make a big fuss when we leave or come home. Sam is very needy and wants to be in your lap or close to you at all times. He is doing very well on house-training here and that was not a problem at his other home either. He just wants to be loved and go with you EVERYWHERE. He is UTD on all immunizations, was heartworm negative and is now on Interceptor and Frontline. We think the ideal home for SAM would be a retired couple or someone that travels who would take him with them. He's been around older children but not very young children. He is also shy and has not been well socialized. This can be easily remedied with trips to the pet store and doggie parks. We think that a fenced in yard for SAM is also a great idea, too. Oh, we forgot to mention that SAM has to lose some weight. He is 16 lbs but needs to only be about 12lbs so lots of walks and a restricted diet is what this boy needs. If you think you are what SAM1 needs, please fill out an application to adopt and we'll be in touch.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
