BIO:
DIXIE was saved by a good Samaritan. In her very young life she has been abused. The owners were keeping her most days over 12 hours in a very small plastic crate in their un-cooled garage. The temps were hitting 100 and she was given no water. That is a deadly combination.  Lucky for DIXIE that this good Samaritan and guardian angel decided to talk the owners out of her and she then immediately turned her over to us. DIXIE came in with not a backyards glance and has been a real sweetheart. She is working on her house training because her other owners taught her nothing but she is getting it and if you take her out on a schedule and first thing in the morning she knows what she's supposed to do. Treats and rewards help. She is also crate trained and does not mess in her crate UNLESS you leave her too long in the crate and she can't hold it remember she's still a baby. We would like a home for DIXIE that will love her and have time a patience to get her completely housebroken. She really needs a fenced in yard so she can run and play in the yard with another younger dog. She does great with all dogs. Considering what DIXIE has been thru she's a wonderful girl. Please give her a home SOON.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application.

More about DIXIE 3...FL

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
