CHEWY now DARWIN came to us from LA a year ago and was adopted out. The new owner contacted us that the neighbors were kicking up a fuss because their child went into the owner's yard without permission while DARWIN was outside and Darwin MIGHT HAVE protected his home by snapping at the child. Long story short, DARWIN lost his home and now is back in foster care again. We don't know why he wasn't fought for but we are glad that he came back to us, rather than being dumped at a shelter. He will be brought UTD on all shots and is housebroken. VERY FRIENDLY and submissive to other dogs. Will be heartworm tested as we aren't sure he was kept on Interceptor. This boy deserves a home where he won't be rejected again, FOR ANY REASON!! We don't know why he was given up down in LA and why we got him, but he sure is a doll baby and deserves the best. If you are interested in knowing more about DARWIN you can contact his foster mom. As of now he has settled in fine, just like he's always lived here. We think he will be fine around older kids over 10 and other dogs but don't know about cats. He is crate trained to a wire crate but doesn't like the plastic ones.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
