Poor Zowie, no one wants her cause she's shy and was said to have never been properly housetrained. She has been shifted from at least two homes that we know of and then finally dumped at a small shelter in middle TN. Zowie is shy, yes and will need someone to get her socialized but as for the housetraining she has been fine here. We have a doggie door and she goes out and does her business and comes back into the house when she's had enough of the great outdoors. We think she would do better in a quiet home with not much activity or children. The ideal would be a retired couple or female and possibly another dog. She does get along fine here with the other dogs in the foster home. Also a fenced yard is a must and hopefully a doggie door, too. If no doggie door then you would have to have patience with her and lots of positive reinforcement and praise when she did was she was supposed to outside. She is UTD on all shots and will be spayed before going to her new FOREVER home. She's on Frontline and Interceptor. We want the next home to be Zowie's last home; no more wandering for her.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
