Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast. Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

BIO:
Personality:
·She is the Farrah Fawcett of the canine world
with a little Marilyn Monroe thrown in (you see it when she walks away from
you).
·She loves to be outside and loves the freedom a
dog door offers.
·She will spend 80% of her waking time outside if
given the opportunity.
·Sadie loves to cuddle and be held.
·She loves, I mean absolutely loves having other
dogs around.
·She has a really sweet personality in that she
appears happy and willing to learn; she loves the reward of knowing she’s done
something to please you (not as motivated by food).
·Sadie wakes at 5:15am (she barks to let you know
she’s up).
Training:
·Sadie has had little training and came to us
with a princess mentality (able to do whatever she wants to). We’ve focused on teaching her our
expectations and her role in pack. She
now waits to have her food set before her and given the o.k. before she
eats. We’re working on appropriate
barking and general rules to help alleviate her anxiety-based behaviors.
·Sadie feels anxiety/fear around men. My husband has worked with her extensively
during the week we have fostered her.
She now comes to him when called and allows him to both pet her and pick
her up (used to run away). She also
enjoys lying at his feet when he works in the office. She is still jittery around my 12 year olds
son and has snapped at him twice.
·She’s o.k. with a crate; we have crated her at
night and when we’re out of the house during the first week and she’s
fine. We have begun to leave her out as
we reinforce good housetraining habits and she has had no accidents.
The
best environment for Sadie will have:
A home with
other dogs; she thrives on their company and needs the stimulation. She will also thrive in a home with
access to the outdoors (e.g., dog door in a fenced yard).
Men who are
patient with her to help her overcome her anxiety of men.
People who know
how to train dachshunds. She has
some training humps to overcome (inappropriate barking, nipping when
anxious and general instructions like stay and lay down).
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our
dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them
to go by ground transport.
If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then
there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK
YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
If you have questions
about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address
listed above. We welcome out of state
and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. Please

More about SADIE....IN
Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
