Peanut is just a bundle of young dog energy. He bonds very quickly to his person and is very suspicious of new people, something his foster mom is working on. But, once he knows you he definitely thinks he owns you. If you sit down, he is in your lap, if you are walking around the house, he follows you. If you are washing dishes he is sitting by your feet. I would not call him a needy dog, but he definitely wants to be near you and keep you company.

Peanut gets along well with other dogs, large and small, male and female. He is not cat tested, but he does not seem to have a high prey drive. He is extremely agile and can jump a dog gate and if it is loose, he can escape. If given the opportunity, he jumps on the furniture, the bed, dining room chairs to the table, etc, so his new family will have to be diligent in his training. But, he is smart and learns quickly.

If you are in need of a faithful companion, Peanut is the dog for you!

More about Peanut 2...OH

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
