BEING FOSTERED IN B'HAM, AL

DEXTER came from Athens, AL where is was found as a stray. A family kept him for several months in the hopes of finding him a home but hey could not keep him as they have other dogs. He was fine with them but they just didn't need the extra financial responsibility of another dog so we were contacted to take him. He has been around other dogs and small kids and is fine with both but we don't know about cats. He is UTD on all shots, heartworm checked(negative) and on Interceptor and Frontline. He will be getting a dental before going to his new home due to poor nutrition. He loves being an inside dog and we think at one time he might have been but the last several months he has been made to stay outside. This boy will make a wonderful pet for anyone wanting a mini dachshund. He is not a barker and enjoys being outside but loves to be in your lap and sleeping in doggie beds in a nice cool house at night. Please consider giving Dexter his final home where he won't have to be an outside dog again or be homeless. Thank you for thinking of a rescue to adopt.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
