Special Needs: Sadie Ann will need medication for dry eye for her remaining eye for the rest of her life. It's only a drop twice a day. The medication costs about $45 but will last over a year.
Sadie Ann was turned in at the Warren County Humane Society in Bowling Green, KY. She is 5 years old. She is a gorgeous mahoghany red with black tips. She weighs about 15 pounds. Her right eye was bulging because of glaucoma and was removed. The veterinarian examined her left eye and says she is no more likely to develop glaucoma in it than any other dog. She does have dry eye which requires medication.
She is totally unconcerned with the change. She acts just like any other dachshund: snuggles on the couch and bed, goes for rides in the car and walks, loves nosing around the yard and always hears the refrigerator door open!!! She gets along great with the other dachshunds. And she is great with cats, even the foster kittens that chase her beautiful feathery tail. She is very calm and laidback - she slept through the neighborhood fireworks on the 4th. Don't miss out on this gorgeous girl with the heart of gold. She is spayed/up to date on shots and heartworm negative and on Interceptor and Frontline.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
