Hansei is a little bitty guy, weighing less than 10 pounds, that comes complete with “handsome-ness” included! Hansei used to be a breeder and has not lived most of his life as a pet and is learning to trust people. His foster mom is teaching him how to become a Grade A, certified authentic, spoiled rotten dachshund.  He needs a home that will be patient with him and offer a quiet and consistent routine and allow him space to continue to gain confidence in his new role. Hansei gets along well with other dogs, so he would be good with another calm, secure dog that can show him the ropes and let him know how great it is to be spoiled rotten!

Hansei is loves to follow his foster mom around the house and sit beside her when watching TV or reading. He’s even started to come to his mom and ask for a little attention and affection and settle down for a short snuggle.  He’s housetrained to a doggie door and has learned to be a proper young gentleman and go outside or use a puppy pad for his business! He snoozes quietly in his crate while his mom is at work.  Hansei is a delicately built boy and needs jumping and stair climbing restricted to protect his back. Since he’s “pocket sized”---just carry him!

During his life as a breeder, Hansei was not given good food or kept in good health, so his teeth were a mess when he came to rescue. He had many of them extracted and feels much better now! He eats whatever the rest of the gang eats—no special food is required!!!—just needs his kibbles softened with warm water.  Hansei isn’t a high maintenance boy, but he does need LOTS of patience, kind words, and encouragement---and BIG HEART for a small boy! If your heart has a hole, this tiny little boy may be the one to put a plug in it!

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application.  If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
