Beauregard is an eight week old purebred dapple dachshund puppy.
He came to us with his mom, Hilda, and his dad, Duke and a brother and sister. Beau does have an overbite but it won't cause any problems for him. Beau is the most easy going of the three. His sister, Lulu Belle and his brother, Otto, have both gone to their new homes.
As foster mom to Beau, I am helping look for very special family for him. The parents of these babies are small so the puppies are tiny. For that reason, we are looking for a family with no children under 12. They will need help learning potty manners so having someone home during the day would be best. Adopters of these babies must have a fenced yard. It's very important that these little ones are adopted with a commitment to keep them forever. Since I've been foster mom to many dachshunds who were "thrown away" by the people who should have loved them, I am going to be as sure as I can that it won't happen to Beau. When you bring a tiny puppy home and they are so cuddly and have that wonderful puppy breath, it's easy to forget that they won't stay tiny. They will need to learn house manners, how to walk on a leash, and that mom's favorite shoes are not the latest chew toy. Experienced dachshund owners know that doxies have a mind of their own and will require patience and firm guidance along with much love. In return, you will have a dachshund that will be devoted to you. Spay/neuter is mandatory. There will be a spay/neuter deposit that we will return when we receive proof of the surgery. Beau will not be used for breeding and as his foster mom, I'll be keeping up with his progress. These babies are pets.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
