FOSTER HOME (NAME, CITY & STATE, ZIP, EMAIL) Stephanie, Huntsville, Alabama, smburmei@comcast.net

Millie was turned in by her owner to a local animal shelter because she was snapping at the maintenance man at the owner’s apartment building. Well, of course, Millie is just being a good dachshund that protects her home from strangers---typical dachshund behavior! She is fine with men and women, but just needs a minute to meet you before you reach for her or try to pick her up. She’ll snap, but just a “wait just a minute” snap, not an aggressive bite. Once she gets to know you, no problems whatsoever! She enjoys her foster brothers and tolerates cats. We’ve found that Millie probably has been fed from the table, which accounts for her extra pounds, and she must learn not to beg and to eat a well-balanced doggie diet. She’s quite a pudgy girl to be so young, but we’ve got her on a weight management diet, and an active walking schedule. She loves to go for walks, so we expect her to regain her girlish figure in short order. Millie has tons of personality and is a bit of a diva---she knows she’s cute!---and has the men of the house wrapped around her little paw.

She’s housetrained and crate trained, and loves to be the center of attention and ---basically, loves to be loved! If your home needs a little diva, Millie is just the girl!

For questions or to request additional pictures, email his foster mom, Stephanie at smburmei@comcast.net.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
