FOSTER HOME (NAME, CITY & STATE, ZIP, EMAIL):  Melissa Cooke, Brentwood, TN, Melissa.cooke@comcast.net

Personality:

Ace was the first born and is the runt of this five member litter.  He’s a bundle of energy.  He has no idea that he’s smaller than the other dogs.  He is one of the most adventurous and brave of the bunch.  He loves to chase his siblings and our older dogs.  He loves to ‘pop’ up and run away from make-believe foes.  He has quite the personality for such a small little guy.  He’s very lovable, loves to give kisses and to play with any toy.

I have two children, ages 12 and 6.  He is fine with both of them.

Training:

Ace is the most consistent with using the potty mats.  He’ll go find one to use if he is out of their room (unless he is in the middle of a round of play and then he just goes where he is.  We’re beginning to train them to go outside now that the weather is getting warmer.

He enjoys his crate and isn’t particular about where he sleeps.

More about Ace 2

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
