Lucy came to us as an owner surrender and just being over a year old has already been in two homes. She is house trained to a doggie door and does better with one  than with out but she is still very much a puppy and wants to chew so she needs to be re-directed and of course crated when you leave the house. She is very sweet, gets along with the other fosters. She barks just a bit too much but seems to do it more when she is nervous than anything. We are working on that. She just really needs someone that's willing to love her and work with her until she gets out of her puppy stage when she's about 2 yrs. Please give Lucy the stable home that she so very much needs.  Here is a litte note from Lucy:

"Hi, I am Lucy and I am all Dachshund !! So if you  know Doxies very well then you know that I like to run & play, not to fond of the cold and rain, REALLY like to eat, and absolutely LOVE to Cuddle. I am still a puppy in many ways so I must be reminded to go out to potty and I am very familiar with a doggie door. I will go in a crate to eat and rest while you are away, but I really don’t like being in one when you are home, that is my cuddle time!! And my time in a crate should be limited as I am a hyper pup and it makes me kind of nervous. I play real well with my foster brothers and sisters and sometimes I am even willing to share my toys. I need adult supervision since I am still very young and sometimes forget what is mine and what is yours, but I learn quick and would love a great teacher. So all in all I am your basic Dachshund with all the bells & whistles and really want a home to call my own. Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $25 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
