BIO:  Louie is such a sweet little boy!  He was nervous the first night in his foster home, and slept in one of the crafts.  Since then, he snuggles up to his foster mom’s back, UNDER the covers, every night!  He loves his foster brother and sister and really wants them to play with him.  He entertains himself otherwise, and likes to be outside.  He does have a tendency to “hunt,” so would always need to leashed when outside, or need to be in a home with a fenced in yard.  He has a funny bark that he does when he wants your attention, and does a little “happy growl” when he gets you to rub his belly.  His favorite thing to do is either eat, or sleep with his head across the back of one of his foster siblings. We don’t know much about him before he came to his foster home, except that he was in a shelter in Birmingham for about four months.  Apparently, he was a favorite of the staff there and they gave him extra food at meal time.  He came to AADR because the shelter notified us that he was scheduled to be euthanized the following Monday if rescue couldn’t take him.  What a delight a forever home would have missed out on!!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
