This boy needs a special home like several others of our dachshunds that have been neglected or abused. He loves to give dachshund kisses. He will roll over for belly rubs as soon as you start to pet him. He has not been socialized. He doesn't like cats and he is a fear biter around men. He was abused by a man so he will need a family that is willing to work with him on that and get him to realize that he doesn't have to be afraid off all men. He will be best going to a dachshund experienced home. He does not like to be held for now but something that is being worked on and if you want to be the one to help this little guy realize that all people are not all bad please give him a home. He will let you pet him. He barks but I have several that bark more than he does. I have not tried him on a leash and I don't know how he would be around children. But with his history of abuse by men we would have to say older dachshund experienced children only. He is UTD on all shots and on heartworm prevention and Frontline. Also neutered. If you'd like to help this boy or need more info please feel free to contract his foster mom. She will be working with him this summer to help him over come some of his issues. He is crate trained. WE WILL NOT SHIP OUR DOGS CARGO, TOO MANY HORROR TALES HAVE HAPPENED FOR US TO FEEL COMFORTABLE DOING THIS. IF WE CAN'T TRANSPORT BY LAND THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO FLY TO THE CITY THAT THE DOG IS BEING FOSTERED IN TO GET HIM/HER. Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard or down to FLORDIA. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to vai all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
