BIO:  Pax was a stray in middle Tennessee and was taken to a shelter. He was in bad shape, underweight by at least 2-3 pounds, and with a very thin, matted coat. But with some medicated baths, grooming, and vetting, he is on his way to being one handsome boy. Of course, you will have to continue helping him with good food and ongoing love. He is great with other dogs, but he barks at cats. He lost all his teeth to poor dental care while with his previous owner, who probably passed away or went into a nursing home, and the family just threw him away. He loves being with humans and will bark if he can’t be near you.

Our must-haves for precious Pax include:

• A fenced yard or enclosed patio/lanai
• Another small, adult dog for him to hang with, or he can be an only dog if someone is home all the time
• Someone who is home a lot
• No apartments or high-rises

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. 

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
