FOSTER HOME Carol   decaturcl@aol.com

Charlie 7 was turned in to an animal shelter in central Alabama because they said he didn't get along with their other male (unaltered) dogs. Well, two unaltered male dogs is not a good mix, so no surprises there! Charlie 7 is scheduled to be neutered just before Christmas and that should help with any “attitude” issues Charlie might have. He seems fine with his foster sisters, so having a sister should be just fine with Charlie. He has got a sweet temperament with his people and loves to be in someone's lap or just hanging out close by. He's a big, standard doxie that is quite the handsome boy. He's at a very good weight at about 20 pounds and happy and healthy. He seems a little sad, probably because the only family he's ever known dumped him at a shelter, but a little lap time and loving should be just what he needs to lift his spirits. Charlie is a little shy at first, but warms up nicely with a treat, of course! He's great on a leash and enjoys going for walks and enjoys go-for-rides. Charlie is also quite the gentleman in his crate—scratches a bit at the door, but gives up quickly and settles in for a nap.

Charlie will be neutered before Christmas and will be ready for adoption after Christmas. Stay tuned as we find out more about Charlie's personality and will post updates when he's ready for his forever home. We KNOW Charlie would do well as an only child because he quickly bonds with someone he feels safe with (he likes men and women) and is content to snuggle up and let you pet his big beautiful head. If you feel that Charlie is the right dachshund to warm your heart and your lap, go ahead and complete an application for adoption. We expect he'll be ready for adoption after the first of the year.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $25 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options. If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application.

More about Charlie 7

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
