ROXIE came from a shelter in Hattiesburg, MS where she was dumped with her puppies, They all found homes, ROXIE has not because she is heartworm positive and will need to go thur treatment before she can go on to her forever home. She is very very sweet, little scared right now but is fitting in very well. We don't know much about her right now cause we just got her in but will update as we learn more. Right now we have to get her treated for the nasty heartworm and she will not be availabe until after FEB 2010. But keep an eye out of you are interested in a sweet mini black and tan we will update as we go along. Heartworms can be prevented by a pill that cost only 6-8 dollars a month but still we see dogs come in down in the south right and left that are heartworm positive. We just don't understand why an owner would not want to keep there dog protected against heartworms.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
