BIO:  If you are looking for a handsome sweetie, then look no further than Mr. Abraham!

Abraham is a retired breeder dog. AADR saw a need and stepped up to help this little guy find his “Furever Home.” Abraham had his dental and lost most of his teeth. He still loves his chow, but he will need to have his food softened. He is cautious with new people but still wants to meet them. He is a barker but is learning, with commands, when not to bark.

Abraham will be ready for adoption on March 11th. He has been in his foster home for only a short period, but he has come a long way. Not knowing how to walk on a leash, he is now walking with the neighbor and her two big dogs. Being a smart dachshund, he has quickly learned the doggie door. We are finding that with access to the doggie door, he hasn’t had any accidents in our home. If no doggie door, then we would want an adopter who does not work or works from home who can keep him on a regular schedule.

Abraham loves running the yard with the other dachshunds in the home. This little man is making real progress in becoming the healthy, happy boy he was meant to be.

Watch for more updates on Abraham’s progress!

Our must-haves for sweet Abraham include:

  • A fenced yard
  • A small dog for him to buddy with
  • An adopter who does not work or works from home
  • Someone who won’t crate him when they are away from home
  • No apartments, high-rises, or condos

Abraham is a sweet dachshund just lookin’ for someone to be patient with him.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.
