UPDATED BIO (10/22/2023): Fireball Charlie came from Kentucky when his elderly owner could no longer care for him. Charlie was never around other small young dogs, but he has learned how to play with his foster siblings. He loves playing tug of war! He has learned the doggy door and how to share toys. He is used to a kennel but loves to sleep in the Big Bed. His favorite thing to do is take a bath! He loves water! His least favorite thing is a vacuum, lol.
Charlie likes to play fetch with his owner and always wants to be with his foster mom. We will insist on another young, small dog so he can learn companionship from them. We need someone who will help him take the extra weight off through exercise. Charlie is going to be a wonderful boy for a lucky someone!
Our must-haves for adorable Fireball Charlie include:
- A fenced yard
- Another young, small, well-socialized dog for him to play with and learn from
- Someone who is committed to helping him take his extra weight off
- Someone who will have patience as he learns that you are not the center of his world
- No apartments, high-rises, condos, or duplexes
If you want to know more about Fireball Charlie, please email his foster mom; she’ll be happy to tell you all about him.
From Fireball Charlie himself: Please check out my friend "Lucy in MI." Although I would love to be adopted by myself, it would be awesome if you could adopt my buddy Lucy too! We have a blast playing together. Just contact the rescue for a special adoption fee should you like to adopt both of us!
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
Canadian adopters are now welcome, but you must be willing to meet the transporters on the US side of the border.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
