Jack was turned into a northwest Alabama shelter after he showed up at a lady's home in the pre dawn hours of the morning and she was unable to find his owner. She took him to the local shelter. He was at an adoption event at a local park but unfortunately he did not find his forever family. He loved the attention from all the people that walked him that day. He walked on a leash like a pro. He was good with children and adults. He is now in a foster home with a single adult female. He is in a home with several other dogs. He has been wonderful with the other dogs. He loves to eat. He gets very excited when you start to fix his meals. He also get very excited when he sees a cat. He should not go to a home with a cat. Did I mentioned he loves to eat? He loves to snuggle with you on the couch and watch football games. When he was turned into the shelter he was wearing a very worn out collar. That collar is now in the trash and he is wearing a handsome new collar that matches his gorgeous tan markings. He is very laid back except for when he sees a cat. I should add that he loves to eat. He needs a family that has a lot of love to give a very special little man who has a lot of love that he wants to return. One last thing, he loves to eat.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
