BIO:  Dear Miss Ella was surrendered in Oklahoma when her owner’s health prevented Ella from getting all the love and daily care she needed. Ella stole the hearts of all the drivers getting her from Oklahoma to Tennessee and then down to Florida. She has had enough of traveling and even though she rides beautifully in a car, she wants a forever home right here in Florida.

Ella’s color is very striking and not seen very often. It is known as Isabella (AKA Fawn) and Tan which is a dilute version of Chocolate and Tan. The dilute gene is a recessively inherited condition called Color Dilute Alopecia (CDA) that causes patches of hair thinning or loss and may also include flaky and/or itchy skin. Ella’s coat is very sparse and looks like it was painted on! Of course, this means that Ella can get cold much more easily than other doxies, which is another reason for her to stay in Florida. Ella has several sweaters and coats coming with her, but you’re sure to have fun selecting additional styles for her wardrobe! BTW, in summer, she’ll need doggie sunscreen or a light T-shirt to protect her from too many sun rays. Want to learn more about CDA? Here’s a website: https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/color-dilution-alopecia/

Ella’s demeanor is very sweet and gentle. In less than 24 hours, she was giving kisses to her foster mom. Ella is used to having her previous owner’s full-time attention, so she may whine when she wants something in her new home. Foster mom is working on this and on Ella wanting to jump on or off furniture. This, of course, is a big NO-NO for any doxie if you want to avoid IVDD surgery in the future. Ella’s amber eyes are GORGEOUS, and she knows how to use them to give you her sad “woe is me” look when she wants something. You know, like to be in the BIG bed or on the sofa or in your lap! LOL

Here are the MUST-HAVES for beautiful Ella:

  • An adopter in Florida who is home a lot since she loves attention.
  • She can be an only dog, although she does get along with four other doxies in her foster home.
  • Someone willing to meet her current and future needs due to her skin condition.
  • A fenced yard.
  • No apartments, high-rises, or condos.

Ella has just arrived in her Florida foster home, and her foster mom will continue to update her bio as she settles into her home. Ella will get lots of inquiries, so if you want to adopt this beautiful and sweet little lady, please fill out your adoption application ASAP. You will not be sorry!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.
