BIO: My name is Oscar, and I am a ten year old gentleman. Don't let my age fool you into thinking I have no life in me, because I do! I run and play with my foster mom's 1 year old Doxie, and we have a great time! I get along great with other dogs, there are six other's here, and I like them all. I love the dog door here at my foster home, I can go out and nose around and do my thing whenever I feel like it. I do tend to be a bit pushy about somethings..like food! I love food! Don't drop anything and think you'll get it back - I am quick! Being an elderly gentleman, I do prefer sleeping with nice, warm humans. Their beds are always so comfortable and cozy. If left alone, I'll bark to remind you that I really do not like sleeping alone, so please, do an old man a favor and let me sleep with you! I promise I won't be a bed hog. ok...maybe a bit, but only because I love being pressed up against you. Forget those pups! They'll chew your shoes, and tear things up. Remember - I'm a gentleman and I'll never destroy your things. I do love something to chew, ( hint - I love raw carrots and chewies) but only the things you provide, I won't steal yours, so please consider ME, a kindly senior! Can you find it in your heart to give an older fella a new start in life? I'll be your best friend forever if you do, and everyone needs a best friend. Send my foster mom and email, I'm waiting for you.
Note: Oscar needs to go to an experienced doxie-savvy home. He is such a special little boy but because of the difficult life he has lead, he needs to know that his person is the boss and not him!

More about Oscar 10....MA
Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
