BIO:  Are you looking for a project to adopt? Gigi just might be the dog for you! She came from Alabama when her family could no longer care for her and was turned into a shelter. Sadly, she has never been socialized and is very timid until she knows she can trust you. That’s where you come in... you must have patience and see the beauty underneath her fear of the unknown.

Because Gigi is anxious, she will need a home that will take the time to work with her. Little Gigi’s must-haves include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Someone who is familiar with unsocialized dogs and will take the time to patiently work with her
  • Another small, young socialized dog to help her overcome her fears
  • No apartments, high-rises, or condos
  • Someone who is home a lot to help her and work with her

If you meet these requirements (no exceptions), then please fill out our online adoption application. After your vet reference check, Gigi's foster mom will contact you to see if you two are a good fit for each other.

Gigi has gotten to know her temp foster mom and is very sweet and is even starting to play a little. Gigi has only been with her temp foster mom for one week and is making good progress. She will be going on to her regular foster mom soon. So, if you’re looking for a diamond in the rough, this girl will be the girl for you!

Notice her brown nose! Her tail has flowing long fur that is just beautiful. This little girl will likely give you years of loyal love. You just have to give her the opportunity and the love and patience she deserves.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.
