BIO:  Lillian is a sweet and funny young lady.  She was rescued from a very crowded shelter in NC.  She was left there by her owner who could no longer care for her.  Lillian is still very puppyish and filled with exuberance.  She is smart and eager to learn.  She is crate trained and is doing very well with housebreaking.  If she goes out first thing in the morning, right when she gets out of her crate, and just before bed, she does fine.  Lillian would probably do well with a dog door too.  She does well on a leash, but hold tight if she sees a cat or squirrel.  She tends to bark ferociously at new people, but as soon as they pet her she stops and sometimes even gives them a few friendly licks.  We have been working on her people skills and she is getting much better.  Lillian loves to chase balls and squeaky toys, but hasn’t quite mastered the art of bringing them back.  She enjoys playing with the other dogs, but is very people-oriented and would be happy as an only dog too.  When she is done playing she likes to hop in a lap and curl up for a nap.  She will sit nicely for her food or a treat and is also learning to sit pretty and lay down.  She likes to sleep on the big bed, but will also sleep in her crate if she must.  Because of her small size, she would do best in a home with no small children.  Lillian is a real treasure and will mature into a fun and loving companion.

More about Lillian...NC

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
