BIO: WHY no applications on Sammy? He's PB he can't help it because he has too much cartlidge in his ears! He's a wonderful boy, please give him a home for the holidays.
Sadly, Sammy came from an elderly owner in Alabama who could no longer care for him so the family contacted us and ask if we could find him a home. Sam is shy at first but does warm up after a day. He really only wants to be near his family member. He’ll sit on the couch with you and follow you room to room or outside in the fenced yard. He’ll sleep nicely beside your bed in a doggie bed but he’d love to be in the Big Bed with you.
Due to poor dental care from the previous owner, Sammy lost his two upper canines. They will need about 3-4 weeks to heal then he should be able to go back on hard food. He lost a total of 10 teeth on his dental. Sammy is a perfect weight and should be kept around 14 pounds, any more than that and he’ll be too heavy.
Let’s talk about his ears! He has too much cartilage in his ears so they stand at attention and it’s the cutest thing! They will be the subject of many conversations! And yes, he is a pure breed, his foster mom saw his mom and dad, both Dachshunds.
Our wish list for adorable Sammy includes:
- A fenced yard
- Another adult, small dog to be a companion for him when you aren’t home
- Someone who is home a lot as he does love his people
- No apartments, high-rises, or condos
- Someone who has the patience and understanding that he needs time to warm up and be less clingy
If you meet these requirements and are interested in giving Sammy his last forever home, please fill out an application for him and we’ll contact you asap. Sammy deserves a great home because he’s a GREAT dog!
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
