BIO UPDATE (8/1/22): Harper is doing great and has gained the weight that she needed to. She is a ball of energy and loves to run through the house carrying one of the multiple toys that she has killed the squeaky in. Harper would love to have a home to call her own and would lavish love on her person/persons.
BIO: Harper was abandoned in a house in Alabama with 4 other dogs and 4 cats. She is a little nervous at first but will warm up to someone quickly. Harper will need to gain a couple of pounds to bring her weight up to 9 pounds, which is a healthy weight for this petite lady. If she weighs more, she will be overweight.
Harper is the sweetest and friendliest little girl. She loves to snuggle with her blanket and have multiple stuffed toys in bed with her. Harper loves to bark at any noise that she hears or imagines that she hears. She gets along great with her 3 foster sisters and loves to run around with them outside but will growl if another dog gets too close to her bed while she is sleeping or her food bowl while eating. Because of this, we believe Harper will be happiest as an only dog in her new home.
The must-haves (no exceptions, please) for precious Harper include:
- A fenced yard since she loves to run around and explore outside
- No small children
- No apartments, high-rises, or condos since she barks very loudly
- Be the only dog in the home
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
