BIO: Skye was a stray from Alabama that had to be trapped since she was so scared that she would not let anyone get near her. Once she was taken to the shelter, she warmed up and was fine. She has since come to rescue and is a love bug who loves to sit in your lap or next to you, and she loves to sleep in the Big Bed! If you won’t allow that then this little girl is not for you.
Our must haves for sweet Skye include:
- A fenced yard
- Another small dog for her to pal around with
- Someone who can be home more often than not
- No apartments, high-rises, or condos (while she is not a big barker, dogs do bark and we would not want neighbors disturbed)
Sadly when she first came into rescue, she tested positive for heartworms so she’ll be going through treatment within the week, and then will have another treatment in 30 days. She will be able to go to her new home the first weekend in August.
She will be shy the first couple of days but then after that, she’ll be just fine and happy to follow you all over the house and fenced yard.
In case you can’t tell, she is a Dachshund-MinPin mix but loves to be under the covers at night or when on the couch just like a typical doxie. Don’t let this beauty slip through your fingers... apply to get approved, wait for her to finish treatment, and she’ll be on her way to you!
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
