BIO: Stewie came from South Carolina when his family could no longer care for him. He was loved too much and had put on more weight than what is healthy for him. He came in at over 33 pounds and we have him now down to about 30 ½ pounds, but he needs to lose another 5 to be just right. He is a standard and doesn’t act his age of 10 years. What he likes to do is drag his plush fleece blanket from one bed or crate to another. He’ll cover himself up when he wants to nap and sleeps all night in a doggie bed. He only barks if he thinks someone has come to the door or is in the driveway. This boy is wonderful! What more can I say?! If you’re looking for a sweet senior, then you shouldn’t wait on this boy, apply now.
Our must haves for adorable Stewie include:
- A fenced yard
- Someone who is retired or home a lot
- He can be an only dog or have a dog buddy
- Please no apartments, high-rises, or condos
He LOVES his foster dad and will follow him all over the house. When dear old dad goes outside, he’ll check to see what he’s doing, stay a while, and then take himself back in the house (by way of doggie door) and we’ll find him snoozing in a dog bed. As he’s lost weight he’s becoming more active. Oh, and if you show him a leash he goes nuts... he loves to go for walks so if you are an avid walker or need a walking buddy, then he’s your man!
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $55 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
