BIO: Sadly Cooper, along with another dog, had to be given up because they do not like babies or small children. Cooper is a great dog and so beautiful with his long hair and flowing tail.
Cooper needs someone who stays at home a lot or works from home because he gets very attached to his people and doesn’t want to be without them. He also would do best with another small dog in the 7- to 10-year-old range to keep him company when you have to be out of the house. He will sleep in a crate in your bedroom at night but would prefer the Big Bed if you’d let him, will you?
Our must haves for gorgeous Cooper include:
- A fenced yard
- No apartments, condos, or high-rises
- No small children or grandchildren in the home
- Someone who is home a lot or works from home
We did find that he will have to have dentals every two years because he does have a grade 2-3 heart murmur that prevents him from being put under for longer periods of time. This can be discussed if you are interested in adopting him.
If you meet all these requirements and want to add to your family, please apply for Cooper. He’ll repay you with years of devotion!
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $55 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state they are being fostered in.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
