BIO:  Newman came into rescue when the grandchildren moved into the home and would not leave him alone. Newman is a bit of a shy boy but does bond quickly to members of the family. While he loves children, they must be respectful of his space and not be in his face.

Our must haves for sweet Newman include (no exceptions please):

  • A fenced yard
  • No apartments, high-rises, or condos
  • No children (including grandchildren and any others who visit the home) under 7 years and only those who have been around small dogs
  • Someone who is home quite a bit or another dog to keep him company while you have to be gone from home

Newman loves to sleep in the Big Bed either under the covers or on top, so if you don’t want a dog in your bed, then he’s not the dog for you. He’s a typical Dachshund and does like to bark at strange noises, door bells, and other dogs barking.

Newman came in a little overweight so he’s working hard to get down to his ideal weight but even then he’s not going to be a small dachshund. He’s going to be a big tweenie or small standard so please don’t think he’s going to be easy to carry.

Newman is a sweet boy and deserves his last forever home... are you that home?

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $55 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state they are being fostered in.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
