FOSTER HOME (NAME, CITY & STATE, ZIP, EMAIL) Kathy Martine, Elkins AR 72727 kathymartine@cox.net

Porthos is a delightful little fellow.  He is playful, yet really happy to cozy up on a good lap!  Apparently after being surrendered by his family, there was an incident where he bit a veterinarian examining him.  This is really not that unusual... after all who likes the doctor examining them?  But I would guess that it was all fear based.  I am seeing a completely lovable and loving little guy.  He is housebroken too.  At first, he just went where ever until he realized he could count on being taken outside regularly.  He's doing fine now.  He gets on well with the other dogs.  Absolutely loves going for walks.  He is great on a leash.  Loves riding in the car.  He is great with my children, who are 13 and 10 and know how to respect him.  The only thing he is not great with is the cats.  He REALLY has the prey drive to get them. Which is difficult for me here with 4 cats.
There is a home out there just longing for a perfect gentleman, to go on nice long walks, rides in the car, and share their big bed!  A family with a couple of laps to cuddle on!  But alas, probably, best a family  with no cats...:(

Hurry because, it's hard to find a friend this sweet, good and handsome too!

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $25 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about Porthos

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
