Nicki and Rascal are a BONDED PAIR and must be adopted together!

BIO:  Nicki is a 5-year-old black and tan miniature dachshund. He was abused as a puppy but has almost completely overcome the trauma. He takes a bit to warm up to most adult males. He loves children and will lick them to pieces (he has been around my son from the time my son was 7 years old and Nicki was 7 months old). Nicki’s very playful and loves his toys! He greets you at the door and lets you know he missed you while you were gone. He needs someone to love him and be patient with him. Nicki can be a bit nervous in new situations and when there are lot of people around. His previous owner did not have a lot of company, but Nicki is very social once you give him time to warm up to you. He does have a slight issue with peeing when excited and/or nervous, but we are working on this with him. Nicki loves to cuddle and will always want to be in your lap if you let him. He is a lapdog and is very loyal to his person! Because of his previous abuse, he does not do well with scolding or raising your voice. He will eat all the food if allowed. He has allergies so he can only eat foods that are NO GRAIN, including treats. He and Rascal love to chase one another around the house. Nicki will be your side kick!

BIO:  RASCAL is a 4-year-old red miniature dachshund. He is full of life and has a great personality! He is very playful and loyal. Rascal loves older children and does well with them. He is quite the funny one. He loves to get under a blanket and pretend he is a ghost and walks around with the blanket completely covering him, including his eyes. Rascal loves to chase Nicki around the house. They are very playful together. He will also be in your lap if allowed. He has no food allergies and gets the leftovers from Nicki, so you must feed them and then take up their bowls.

These two little guys are very cute and if you love dogs, you will fall in love with them in no time, I did. They just need someone who will love them and ensure they have a healthy diet so they thrive. My mom loved them more than life. They were her life and I promised to ensure they had a very loving safe home. So please help me keep my promise to her!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
