BIO UPDATED (8/28/2021):  Cash is the sweetest little boy! He is a long-haired dachshund, but for some reason, his previous owner completely shaved him down so he looks a bit naked right now. But his hair is starting to grow back and he is such a handsome boy! He was surrendered when he snapped at the previous owner’s five young children. We think he was tormented because he cowers and gets wary whenever you go near his head, ears, or tail. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, but he hated being touched on his head or butt when he first got to his foster home, probably as a result of being grabbed and pulled at by young children. Wouldn’t you snap too if someone was constantly pulling your tail and ears and grabbing at you?

For this reason, Cash needs to be in a home either without young children or with children who are respectful of dogs, especially dachshunds. He has a human foster brother who is nine years old and Cash loves him because his human brother is very respectful toward dogs and knows how to treat them. He has come a long way from when he first came to his foster home. Now he loves being petted on the head and snuggling with his foster parents.

Cash also loves his two foster dog sisters and gets along very well with all dogs. He loves being in a pack! He loves going for walks and follows his foster sisters' lead on all things like using the ramp to get up and down, peeing outside, and snuggling with them when the humans leave. Cash is a very good boy, housetrained (does have an accident every once in a while, but he's doing great), and sleeps in a crate at night next to one of his foster sisters, though he would love to sleep with you. He does have long legs and can jump on chairs, but as long as you push your chairs in or gate off any area where you don't want him to go, he learns quickly and will not jump. He loves to cuddle and will come and lay his head on your leg, or just gaze at you adoringly. He has so much love to give in his tiny body.

He has already learned that not all humans will hurt him. He knows his name and comes when called (unlike his foster sisters who often ignore the human), follows his foster mom everywhere, and just wants to be with humans. Are you the perfect, patient family for this absolutely adorable and sweet dog?

Our must haves for this handsome fellow include:

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate. 

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
