BIO UPDATE (9/22/2021): Hey everyone, this is Roxy! I wanted to give you an update on how I am doing at my foster home. They have allowed me to move at my own pace and I am trusting them more and more. I have been listening to them and have made them so proud of how far I have come. When they tell me I have to go out and potty that's what I do (of course it helps that I have other dogs to follow). My potty training has progressed and I have had fewer accidents in their house. I still use the potty pads sometimes. They also have a ramp that I use to get on and off their couch and into the doggie bed. I love the ramp as I just like to go up and down for no reason. The ramp makes me feel like I am in control and great for my back. I use to run every time they got up because I thought they were going to come and get me. But now I just lay in the bed and let them pick me up. Hey I even go to them and ask to be picked up and I love sitting in their lap. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Big Bed! They have steps for me to use to get on the bed and it is my favorite place! I sleep all night and snuggle with my foster siblings and the human and I will sleep late if they will let me. I know I will have to work on these things again at my new home but at least I have started to be trusting.
I went to the doctor and l am doing great! I still need to be on special food but possibly no medications as they are weening me off of them. I will keep you updated.
So, if you are looking for a sweet girl that will sit in your lap and snuggle in bed with you, then I am the one for you! You just have to give me some time to trust you. I have come a long way since I was at the breeder. I will have to get used to being loved. I hope you will give me a chance!
BIO UPDATE (7/15/21): Roxy is coming out of her shell and starting to trust us. She comes and sits in our lap without any hesitation and gives us lots of kisses. She lets us pick her up but still does not like being picked up when you are standing over her. Everything is still on Roxy’s terms but the good thing is she has made a lot of progress from her first day with us. Her house training is moving along. We are using pee pads and she has no problem with those. Roxy also now goes in and out the doggie door, so there are fewer accidents in the house. A lot of love and patience is what this sweet little girl needs.
BIO: Roxy came from a breeder in North Carolina who was retiring some of her dogs. She is a very petite little girl who deserves the best life.
Roxy somehow developed trust issues at some point in her young life and will need someone who will be patient with her until she is positive you are the person who will love and care for her forever. She does not like to be picked up due to these trust issues. But she has already learned in a few days to go in and out of the doggie door. This is great, as she will now come back inside without us having to pick her up. When she comes in, she goes straight to the ramp and gets on the couch under a blanket.
She prefers the inside over outside and gets along great with her foster siblings, both male and female. Roxy enjoys snuggling up with them or, on her terms, she will even come and sit with her Foster Mom. We are working with her to make sure she knows that she will be safe with us.
Roxy’s liver did not totally develop as a puppy and therefore she may have to be on medicine and special dog food. The dog food is Royal Canine Hepatic and is a prescription food. The medicine currently is costing approximately $35 per month. We are continuing to lower her dosage to see if we can get her off the medication completely.
Roxy is so sweet and loving and will make a wonderful companion for the right person! We will keep everyone updated as Roxy’s sweet personality continues to blossom.
This little girl will do best in a home with other pups. She loves her foster mom's little pup Luca. One of her photos shows her snuggling with him. To say the least, Roxy loves her Luca!
Our wish list for this beautiful girl includes:
- A fenced yard
- No apartments or high-rises
- Another dog or two for her to play with and learn from (small dogs preferable)
- Someone who can be home at least part of the time
If you fit these requirements and want to make Roxy a part of your family, then please fill out our online adoption application and contact her foster home with any questions.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
