BIO:  Maggie is a super sweet and super cute little lady whose Mama just could no longer keep up with all of her needs. For this reason, she came into rescue and we are looking for someone able and dedicated to taking care of Little Miss Maggie and all that entails. First, she takes a small pill every 12 hours to prevent seizures. Second, as of right now, she is bathed twice a week for skin issues, which are believed to be allergy related. She does GREAT in the tub and with taking her pills!

Maggie is a communicator and always wants to be with her people. She likes her family together and is happiest when everyone is home. She can take or leave the other dogs. Maggie does not appear to be an alpha, but she also doesn’t mind letting them know when they are “getting on her nerves” or “in her way”. At night she sleeps in her doggy bed nestled under her blanket. Talk about a professional burrower!

Car rides are not among her favorite things. She does okay but whines the whole time. She can be very playful at least once a day and has the most fun with her human! And, of course, meal time is a FAVORITE time of day!

Our must-haves for this beautiful girl include:

  • Someone who is dedicated to ensuring Miss Maggie gets her medication
  • Someone who is home a lot
  • No children in the home
  • A fenced yard
  • No apartments or high rises

We believe if Maggie is an only doggy, she would be fine as long as her person/people are home a lot. A home with a fenced yard would also be best for this little princess. The last thing we also recommend for little miss Maggie is Pet Insurance. Let me tell you, her needs pale in comparison to the love and companionship you get back from this little girl! If she sounds like a good fit, please contact her foster family for more information!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about Maggie in TN

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids, Good with Adults, Requires a yard, Leashtrained, Likes to play with toys, Needs special care, Even-tempered

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
