BIO:  Payne, along with his sister and mom, were taken to a shelter in Alabama. He is 7 weeks old (date of birth 3/19/21) and 4.9 pounds. He's the bigger of the two, has the longer legs of a Chihuahua, and has some blue in one of his eyes like his mom. He is the most adventurous of the two as well. He will need to be neutered by 9/19/21 and will go to his adopter with a neuter contract. He will be able to go to his approved forever home after the 25th of May when he's had his second set of puppy shots.

Our must haves for little Payne include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Someone who is home a lot to potty train him, he's using puppy pads right now and doing pretty well but he needs to be house trained
  • Another young, small dog or cat to play with him as he loves to play
  • No apartment or high rises
  • Children in the home 7 years or older and respectful of a dog's space

His adoption fee is $550.00 + $75.00 (refundable neuter fee), plus a health certificate fee of $55.00 if traveling out of the state of Tennessee.

If you have any questions or need more info, please email his foster mom at aadrpresident@gmail.com.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
