BIO: Mater is a former breeder dog from North Carolina. Do not apply to adopt this boy just beacuse of his coloring or the fact he's young and a long hair... you have to be willing to house train him, socialize him, and get him to trust you as he is scared. Sadly, this is typical for former breeder dogs.
Our wish list for this gorgeous boy includes:
- No apartments or high rises
- Another well socialized young small dog to help him
- An adopter(s) who has experience with a scared breeder dog is a plus
- A fenced yard
- No children or grandchildren under the age of 10 years
- No cats
We are going to be very picky where he goes because he is going to take patience and experience with how to deal with an unsocialized dachshund. He will be ready for adoption after the 10th of May.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
