BIO UPDATE (4/27/2021):  Bliss is a sweet young girl who immediately made herself right at home with her foster family. She had zero concerns about the four dogs and one cat already in the house. She gets along just fine with our two dachshunds and two beagles. Bliss tries to play with the cat but the cat is not interested. So, a home with a cat would be just fine with her.

Bliss is great with her housetraining! There have been zero incidents since she arrived at her foster home. However, we know that with a change in environments, accidents may happen initially. Our dog area is fenced and Bliss is never outside of that area. We have a doggie door to the area and she comes and goes as needed, usually leading or following the other dogs. The outside dog area is covered with dog turf and she will lie on her back, scratching it against the turf, belly up toward the sun. She enjoys walks on the local trails and is very curious about what she finds.

She is a talker, especially when it is mealtime. Bliss is probably voicing her opinion about being on her diet! She is doing very well and has dropped a few pounds but is still working to regain her girlish figure.

In true doxie style, Bliss likes to wrap herself in a blanket on the couch and burrow under the bed covers at nighttime. Once she is settled for the night, she is out cold until morning. Bliss is a big fan of TV time when the humans join her on the couch. She is a great little pup!

Please continue reading for more information for adding this little one to your family.

BIO:  Bliss came from a home in Knoxville where the owner could no longer care for her. Sadly, she was allowed to get about 10 pounds overweight, we are sure with people food. We now have her on a diet and she’s losing the weight. Her adopter(s) will have to keep her on a strict diet to protect her back. Plus, she should not be allowed to do stairs or jump on and off furniture.

Our wishes for this sweet girl include:

  • A home with a fenced yard
  • Preferably a young small dog for her to play with
  • Someone not gone for 8 hours a day, she likes her people
  • No apartments or high rises
  • Applications from Southern states so she can walk all year long to keep the weight off

Bliss does like her food so no “free feeding" and she must be fed separately from other dogs. She is friendly to everyone... no strangers for her, no sir. And she even likes cats!!

She does look like she’s all black but you can see a hint of tan in her markings when the sun hits it. You would be the love of her life and isn’t that what it’s all about, someone who gives you unconditional love? Here she is... apply now!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Even-tempered

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
